TRYING IT HARD TO WRAP YOUR HEAD AROUND THE LOCKDOWN? DON’T GET WRAPPED INSIDE YOUR HEAD – MAKE THE MOST OUT OF THIS ISOLATION PERIOD

I have been asking for a break for the past 1 year and now that I have got one, I have no clue what to do with it! What date is it? Is it Sunday? Then why doesn’t it feel like a Sunday to me? Wait! It is Monday. Why am I not sulking about Mondays anymore?
If the lines written above resonates with you, this means we all are in the same shoes. A week ago, when our PM requested us to stay indoors the nation went on a complete standstill. Needless to say, this has changed lives for many. We are working from home, stepping out is limited to grocery and essential shopping because restaurants, malls, schools, and even public transport along with state borders are closed. So, the restless souls out there who are not used to being confined to the walls of their home, star performers of the month, travel bugs, explorers, young and old, or common average Indian like you and me, what are we all supposed to do?
This legit question, “What can one do to make the best out of these 21-days?” I might have just cracked the answer to this.
1. Make a To-Do List
Let’s start with “what is pending?”. Starting from Household chores, something from work, or things you always wanted to do and learn. Pen down your thoughts and make a list. It’s your list so, don’t shy away from adding and subtracting the things that need your attention here.
2. Pick up a Hobby
Now, from the list you made choose the best feasible option at hand. Avoid something that cannot get easily materialized today but stick to things that can be easily done and need limited or no resources. Read a book. Pick up that guitar, paint that canvas, just redo your home if you like and for these few days try to live life at your own pace. What am I doing? I am working on my vocals these days.
3. Follow a healthy lifestyle
While many of us are at home, there is no physical movement at all. With next to no important commitments, this is the perfect time to start your fitness regime. One cannot go out, but you can start by making a few changes like eating the right food, talk to our nutrition expert for a bespoke plan. There are multiple beginner level Youtube and Instagram videos to help you work out at home.
4. Enroll for an online course
If you are already doing the things mentioned above and want to be different than others, then enroll yourself for an online program. Udemy and Linkedin have more than a thousand courses to offer and doing a skill enhancement program will make your cv stand out.
5. Stay Connected with friends
Now that you are not going out any sooner, why don’t you call and meet your friends in virtual spaces? Trust me, even the long-distance friend from the UK is free to join this call. Cath up and see if they are doing fine. We all are going through the same thing and more or less the emotions too are the same. It’s is a great reason to check up on friends.
6. Indulge in Selfcare
You have been busy throughout these months. Work, home, Friends. Consider this as a break the universe has gifted you. Now, don’t forget to indulge in self-care. DIY a hair mask, rejuvenate your face or it can be as simple as enjoying a glass of wine with some old-school music.
7. Spend Quality time with your family
They are a blessing many of us take for granted around the year. This is when you can make for all the lost times and let your family and loved ones know that you care. Celebrate the special days with the same zeal, play some board games with the kids or watch a movie. These days if you spend them the right way, will bring you closer to your family.
8. Take care of your emotional health
We all are social animals and isolation, no matter if we are introverts or extroverts, is not for us. This change, uncertainty, and fear of what the future brings can take a toll on your mental health. Try mindfulness exercises or talk to an expert if you are feeling anxious, stressed or depressed.
9. Make a wish list for life post-lockdown
This is the best part of all. I never realized how much I love watching movies in theatres until this lockdown happened. I cannot wait to go back to a filmy Friday, sit with a large tub of salted popcorn and enjoy a movie with my family. So, don’t lose hope and plan for the coming days.
Sticking to a routine and holding onto your ray of hope are the only things that will help you come out stronger from these days. For rest, we have our experts to help you out. And from an isolated soul to another, “What will you do once this is all over?”
